Holman Gomez Los Angeles, Calif Shooting: Suspect Shot Dead by LAPD in Exposition Park After Displaying Rifle – A 39-year-old man was shot and killed by Los Angeles police officers Thursday morning in the museum district of Exposition Park, authorities confirmed. The incident occurred after officers say the suspect displayed what appeared to be a rifle, prompting an officer-involved shooting.

The Los Angeles Police Department reported that the initial call came in around 9:30 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of State Drive and Figueroa Street. An LAPD motorcycle officer spotted the suspect, who appeared to be carrying a rifle, and requested backup from additional units. Officers from multiple stations quickly responded to the scene.

Police identified the suspect as Holman Gomez, 39. According to the department, officers located Gomez walking along State Drive. Officers attempted to communicate with him as he sat on a concrete bench nearby. During the verbal interaction, Gomez stood and raised the rifle in the direction of officers.

โ€œAt that point, an officer-involved shooting occurred,โ€ the LAPD said. Gomez was struck by gunfire, collapsed, and was pronounced dead at the scene despite medical aid provided by responding officers. Authorities have not released details regarding how many officers discharged their weapons.

The LAPD confirmed that the weapon Gomez was carrying was an air rifle, not a traditional firearm. Investigators are examining the circumstances of the shooting to determine the sequence of events leading up to the officer-involved shooting. Officers involved in the incident are on administrative leave pending routine protocols.
